Lead Practitioner in Attainment

LPA Role

Westercraigs Nursery is lucky enough to have a Lead Practitioner Attainment (LPA), which is a new role created by the Scottish Government to help raise attainment within Glasgow.

The LPA works with the children on the playroom floor alongside the staff team and is committed to role modelling good practice through high quality interactions and experiences. The LPA supports the staff with the children’s progress and development and is at hand to give guidance.

Each LPA has been allocated a curricular focus, Westercraigs Nursery has chosen Maths and Numeracy, this program is known as ‘Glasgow Counts’. This program is delivered to the LPA’s through training from Glasgow City Council and is then delivered to the staff by the LPA through in-service training and twilight training sessions.

The LPA will ensure that all staff are taking part in ‘Glasgow Counts’ and that all children are learning through maths in creative and imaginative ways. The LPA will support the staff in carrying out high quality learning experiences with creative questioning that will allow the children to problem solve their own tasks.

Westercraigs nursery is on a journey to Equity and Excellence which is supported by the senior leadership team, the staff team, the children and families and our wider community. Working together we can provide the best opportunities for our children as they explore the world around them.
